Last week, pop stars Taylor Swift and Zayn surprised the world.
Swift shared the artwork and a quick snippet of the song on her social media accounts just before midnight and naturally the world went crazy.
The mega-star and One Direction alum Zayn Malik revealed that they have recently collaborated on a song called “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.” The song is for the “Fifty Shades Darker” soundtrack.
Climbing to No.1
The song was released on iTunes and quickly snagged the No.1 spot.
Swift acknowledged the fast success of the song on her Instagram account.
“Well that escalated quickly. @jackantonoff @zayn @sam_dew,” Swift posted on Instagram with a photo of their song in the No. 1 slot.
The Collab Process
Swift wrote the song along with Jack Antonoff, who happens to be the boyfriend of BFF Lena Dunham, as well as with singer-songwriter Sam Dew.
Antonoff explained to fans just how the song came together so fast when he tweeted about the process.
“I don’t wanna live forever came together very quickly. [W]rote it with taylor and sam dew and produced it at home mostly on paper sounds.”
He also revealed that the two singers never appeared in the studio together during the recording.
“Recorded taylor at my house. zayn sent parts from LA- we did it in a week basically. i’ve never had something come out that quick,” tweeted Antonoff.
The track is getting a ton of attention for both the lyrics and both Malik’s and Swift’s voices.
Both take turns delivering the lines, “Baby, baby, I feel crazy/ Up all night, all night and every day/ Give me something, oh, but you say nothing/ What is happening tonight?”
Then Malik takes over:”I don’t wanna live forever/ ‘Cause I know I’ll be living in pain.”
“I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” is Swift’s first 2016 release and her first stint away from 1989.
This is also the first single from the “Fifty Shades Darker” soundtrack. The film comes out on Feb. 10.
Swift and Malik have very close ties. He is currently dating model Gigi Hadid, who is also one of Swift’s closest friends.
